What We Grant

The Safe Student Foundation provides financial grants to all public, charter, private, and secular schools serving students between PreK and 12th grade within the states we serve—currently Colorado and Wyoming.

Our approach to charitable giving is rooted in the instinctive drive to protect our children, raise them in a safe environment, and educate them as they become young adults. Through our retail and manufacturing partners and their generous donors, schools have the flexibility to determine where grant funds are most needed and have the greatest impact to secure school property and protect students.

Our approach to grantmaking focuses on three types of initiatives: Infrastructure, Educational, and Training. This approach gives the school flexibility in priorities and giving schools the opportunity to focus on security gaps in their safety protocols or physical structures.

Our three grantmaking pillars include:

Infrastructure

Infrastructure grants involve improving upon the overall instrastructure of the school, including, but not limited to:

  • Security cameras, door lock upgrades and securing entrances
  • Weapons detection, turnstiles and other safety designs
  • Officer and security team deployment

Education

Educational-based grants include any safety education related to active shooter defense, including:

  • Active shooter defense intelligence gathering and prevention
  • Preparedness and response training
  • Gun safety and knowledge for teachers, adminstrators and students

Training

Training grants include:

  • Training of teachers, administrators and staff in the use of active shooter response using both non-lethal and lethal weapons

Required Project Updates + Inspection
If your grant application is approved, you will be required to provide regular status updates, including narratives, photos and/or videos, on your project. A brief final report also will be required, outlining the accomplishments of your work and the impact on the school in securing and protecting the students and staff.

In addition, there may be a need to inspect the work performed, confirming all work has been completed and is operational. Under these circumstances, as determined necessary by the Safe Student Foundation, you agree to allow the Safe Student Foundation to perform the inspection(s) as needed.
