What We Grant
The Safe Student Foundation provides financial grants to public, charter, private, and secular schools serving PreK–12 students in Colorado and Wyoming.
Our grantmaking is rooted in the drive to protect children, provide safe learning environments, and support students as they grow. Through the generosity of our retail and manufacturing partners and their customers, schools can address the security needs that will have the greatest impact on their communities.
Our school grant program focuses on three initiatives: Infrastructure, Education, and Training. This approach gives schools the flexibility to address gaps in their security protocols, preparedness, and physical structures.
Infrastructure
Infrastructure grants involve improving upon the overall infrastructure of the school, including, but not limited to:
- Security cameras, door lock upgrades and securing entrances
- Weapons detection, turnstiles and other safety designs
- Officer and security team deployment
Education
Educational-based grants include any safety education related to active shooter defense, including:
- Active shooter defense intelligence gathering and prevention
- Preparedness and response training
- Gun safety and knowledge for teachers, administrators and students
Training
Training grants include:
- Training of teachers, administrators and staff in the use of active shooter response using both non-lethal and lethal weapons
Supporting Student Mental Health
Student safety also includes mental and emotional well-being. Separate from our school grant program, the Safe Student Foundation provides mental health support gifts to help families cover counseling and therapy sessions for students. Schools can help share this resource with families in their communities. Additional program and eligibility information will be available as the initiative develops.
